~ Make Your Own Oatmeal Packets ~

Who doesn't love a nice warm bowl of oatmeal in the morning.
We love oatmeal, but I confess that making it doesn't always fit in with our busy morning schedule.  I love to buy the boxes of Quaker Oat Packets that are individually flavored and packaged.  However, there aren't always coupons or sales  for stocking up.  So.......I decided to try this idea from Crystal at Every Day Food Storage.  She is a food storage/make-your-own guru!
I have seen quite a few posts for making your own oatmeal packs out in blogland, but I believe Crystal's is the best I've  come across.
THE MIX
(Makes 8 servings)
4 C. Oatmeal
2 T. Non-instant Dry Powder Milk or 1/4 C. Instant Dry Powder Milk
2 T. Sugar (You can decrease this according to your family’s tastes)
Mix dry ingredients together in an airtight container and store covered in a cool, dry place.
I actually double this...yes! we eat that much each week.
TO MAKE THE OATMEAL
(Makes 1 serving)
1/2 C. Oatmeal Mix
1 C. Water
Small handful of Raisins (Optional) You could also use dehydrated apples. peaches or cranberries as well...the possibilities are enless.
Mix Oatmeal mix and raisins (or other dehydrated fruit) with water and microwave for 2 minutes. If you need to make more of this for a larger family, simply boil the water first in a pot on the stove and then stir in the oats and let sit for 1 minute.
This not only saves time in the morning, but is nutritious, filling and extremely budget friendly!
